I can’t believe it’s been three years since the day my site launched on the internet.  At that point the site looked VERY different, much more basic, and most of the photos were taken on my iPhone (I seriously don’t recommend this. LOL) When I look back on how much Happily Eva After has changed and grown– as a website and as a brand– in the past three years it makes me damn proud.  And very emotional!

I’ve said it before, by I had absolutely zero idea what I was doing when I started this site.  I was self-taught in every way.  In a lot of ways, it felt like first time motherhood (which I also was doing at the time).  I cared so much, I wanted it to be great, but I made a ton of mistakes and always wondered if I was doing it all wrong.  Now I look at the site and I’m so proud of it, and the community that has built up around it– I get so moved every time the readership shares with me and with each other, and supports each other during times of need.  My ultimate dream is to find a way to make the Happily Eva After community a more concrete one– and I’m always brainstorming ideas of ways to achieve this.

More than anything, I’m just so grateful to Happily Eva After for how it’s encouraged and pushed me to grow as a parent and as a person these past few years.  I’ve never done something more challenging, and I didn’t think that so far in to adulthood I would be lucky enough to learn an entirely new skillset.  Of course there have been lots of times when I have been totally overwhelmed, but learning that I can always push myself further, grow, do better– it’s been really inspiring and spread in to all corners of my life.  As a working Mom, who works from home, I consistently have moments of guilt and self doubt, but I’m learning to trust myself more and to accept that my drive as a woman and business owner is allowed and valuable. I want my children to feel loved, happy, and inspired– and I want them to always see me as somebody who wants the best for myself as well as for our family.

I really want to thank all of you from the bottom of my heart for supporting me in this journey, for being so loving towards my family, and for contributing so much to something that has made me so energized and happy.  I really respect you all for the people that you are, and I thank you so much for having the same respect for me.  I also want to thank the amazing brands, big and small, that have partnered with me this past year, and over the life of Happily Eva After.  Your belief in my message and style means the world to me, and I’m truly grateful that your support helps me keep this site growing and changing to provide entertainment and support for my readership!

Happy Birthday! Your blogs are a treat to me and so real, they hit home every time. Thank you for being so personal and relatable and letting me get a real glimpse of what other women experience daily in their own lives. I loved your post about making time for you and Kyle as individual people and as a couple. Getting wrapped up in kid world is hard and you remind me that you have to make time for each other and treat your husband as your husband not just the kid’s father or another set of hands to help! Love you and can’t wait to see what this year has ahead!

    Hello!

My favorite post this year was your first post with Kyle. I really enjoy the conversations with kyle because it is a whole new perspective to life from his point of view. I think in society we don’t hear enough from fathers/husbands and it is refreshing. I think it also helps us see we should have more dialogue with our partners about certain topics to help build a strong life together.

  20. Hi Eva!
I’m a local food writer from Rochester, NY and have been following you on Instagram for almost three years! I would have to say Discovering My Healthiest Self is my favorite blog post. As someone who has struggled with my weight for my entire life, I really like reading about other people’s journeys to self-love and incorporating healthy choices in their lives in ways that make sense to them and not just doing what media/society tells them to do. I think your family is great and I enjoy watching you guys enjoy your summer on Instagram! Which I am totally doing as well. Take care!

I’d have to say my favorite was Boy Mom: The Mother Son Bond. We were surprised by the gender of our first child this February, and it was very emotional finding out after an emergency c-section that we’d had a boy! I was so many stages of surprised, terrified, and not sure what to do. Your post about your feelings was very raw, and spoke to me on such a personal level. Thank you for always being honest!

And as a mother that experienced loss at 21 weeks with our first pregnancy, your continued conversation on miscarriage and pregnancy loss is appreciated. One of first posts I saw of yours was with the rainbow mama T-shirt, which I promptly purchased. While most people may not understand the reference, I always feel empowered when I wear it.

Congrats on HEA turning 3! My favorite post from this year was Conversations with Kyle: Fatherhood Expectations. As a mom expecting, I couldn’t wait to hear what your husband had to say on this topic. I’ve come to realize that Pregnancy is a hard experience to share with your partner. My husband has been incredibly supportive and is genuinely excited but likely doesn’t feel the same type of connection to the baby that I already do. Reading Kyle’s responses put a lot of things in perspective for me and I greatly appreciated the honesty that both of you shared! I made my husband read the post that night and it spurred great conversation in my own marriage. So thank you for that! My favorite post was ‘The Mother Son Bond’ because it really was genuine in explaining that relationship. My son is adopted…but in going through the adoption process I was always thinking about a little girl. How we’d play with dolls, do each other’s hair and all the girly things. I didn’t know what to do with a boy! How would I even connect? And wouldn’t you know, our social worker matched us with a 15 month old little boy who upon laying eyes on me for the first time, smiled so big with such joy in his eyes that any hesitation on my part about being a boy-mom literally melted away. The bond IS so special. I love him from the deepest depths, forever and always.

It’s great to hear a man/father‘s perspective on topics and it has help me sometimes understand where my husband is coming from or seeing it in a different point of view. Congrats on #3!!

I love the ones where you talk about marriage. I usually forward them to my husband as a this is how I feel but don’t know how to say it. Your conversations with Kyle about dividing household duties really hit home. I love that Kyle realizes that you do so much for your family. I think sometimes my husband forgets that since he’s working outside the home.

    I have a follow-up thought…

I think the post that impacted me the most, was after you miscarried. When I commented on some of your stories regarding being a rainbow mama and the fear of pregnancy after miscarriage, you were extremely supportive and kind and I was very awakened by that small gesture from you. You inspired me to look for a community and outlets for this specific part of life that is often very hushed. I found the ihadamiscarriage insta account from one of your posts where you linked to them and it was a great first step for me to look outside my own self to find comfort and friends who can talk about it normally and safely. Those photos of Lowie at the beach, the waves washing away your announcement were such a heartbreaking, but also beautiful, organic representation of how life rolls on over us, out of our control. I will never forget those photos, and I am so thankful those waves brought you Major and helped you become an ally and an inspiration to others who have felt the same crash.

Seriously, thank you for all that you are.

    Hi Eva!

First off, Happy Birthday to HEA! What a cool accomplishment!

Like so many other commenters here, I find it so hard to pick only one particular post that resonated with me. I’ll bend the rules a litttle and not choose one specific post, but mention more of a topic overview that you address.

I truly appreciate that you share your internal struggles. Mom guilt, marriage imperfections, etc. It’s the “real life stuff” that so many filter from their social media to project a certain image to others. You are choosing authenticity, transparency, and relatibility. As a fellow working mama, I appreciate so deeply that you share these aspects of your life with your followers.

From Major’s fall, to temper tantrums, to house problems, you share it with us. You, kind stranger, are the real deal. And there’s no doubt in my mind that is a huge part of the reason you are so successful with your HEA endeavor. ?

Happy Birthday! I’ve been reading HEA since day 1, before I was pregnant with my 1st. I have appreciated your transparency and vulnerability regarding motherhood so much. Especially about your post partum anxiety after Major’s injury. I experienced crushing PPA and drew strength from your sharing that it took time, help (yay therapy!) and a commitment to putting time and energy into your own self care routinely to heal. Because in that time/headspace, taking time away from your baby feels impossible. But it was vital. Thank you for helping me accept that through your visibility.

I’d have to say my favorite posts have been about each of the kids phases and milestones, but the one that sticks out is MAJOR weaning drama. I know how much it freaked you out and how worried you were he wasn’t getting enough calcium/the emotional ties to dropping the bottle suddenly. A good reminder for me that we can plan all we want..but these babes are developing minds of their own and sometimes we have to follow their lead.

It has been really nice to turn to your blog when I am struggling and know you just recently went through a similar situation – be it bed training, illnesses with little ones, and of course fun stuff like birthdays and travel!
While “favorite” isn’t the most appropriate word, your most meaningful post for me was the one addressing your miscarriage. I had an ectopic pregnancy and miscarriage after my daughter. It gave me so much hope to hear that you had overcome the same experience and went on to have healthy baby Major.

The one from the last year that spoke the most to me was regarding the Mother-Son bond. I had a daughter first so when I got pregnant the second time, I was convinced it was another girl. When it turned out to be a boy, I was terrified about how to raise him and what it would be like. Your post could literally be coming from my brain on how I feel about my son and the bond I share with him.

And the post saved me because I had most everything I needed already. Plus, it was such a super cute idea!! I got soooo many compliments on how cute and crafty it was! ❤️ And of course I let them know where I got the idea. ?

But the post that introduced me to your blog was about your miscarriage which so real and heartbreaking and I could relate to your pain and fears. My favorite I must say is your recent post about families belonging together. As a mother this situation is so devastating and your post really touched my heart. I really commend you for writing it. It’s not about politics, but about humanity. Thank you for writing it.

Happy Birthday, Happily Eva After!! It’s so hard to choose a blog post from this year, probably every single Monthly Obsessions post because I’ve found the most amazing gems through those! But to be honest, the posts in the past that dealt with anything about your miscarriage, pregnancy after miscarriage, parenting a rainbow baby- they were LIFE for me. I went through the same heart wrenching situation almost the exact same time you did, and you are one of the main voices that helped me have the strength to try for my sweet rainbow baby. Thank you for voicing the sadness that almost swallowed me as well as the voice that said to try again. That rainbow is 16 months old and the most beautiful thing in the world! ? ❤️??

Definitely Conversations with Kyle: Fatherhood Expectstions. I read this blog with my husband because we are currently expecting our first child. I think everyone has pre conceived notions of what motherhood and fatherhood is but it was nice to hear both of your perspectives on the matter. We are both utterly nervous and excited for this new journey and have accepted the fact that we can’t be ready for anything. My husband didn’t have the best relationship with his father so I know it’s a big part of why becoming a new dad and a “good” dad is so important to him. Thanks for easing our worries and expectation even just a little. ?

I hope this doesn’t disqualify me because it’s actually from last year, but it is my favorite post you’ve ever done: the one about Marlowe adapting to being a big sister. My son was born exactly 14 days after my daughter’s second birthday (she is my rainbow baby), and when I was pregnant I showed her the video of your kids meeting for the first time so she could be prepared. Marlowe really set the bar for big sisterhood in our house, and I truly believe your posts helped prepare my girl! She has been a doting mama bear to her brother since he was only a few hours old. Reading about Marlowe’s adjustment gave me such hope for my kids, and luckily it worked out beautifully. Congratulations on another great year!

I love all of your posts, but I especially loved your post about the importance of keeping families together. It’s hard to watch news reports about the children of immigrants being taken and placed in temporary shelters. I’m not a parent, but I am a teacher. Over the years, I’ve worked with many children of immigrants. I would be absolutely heartbroken if one those students had been ripped apart from their family and held in some undisclosed location without anyone to property care for them. I can only imagine how these parents must feel. They’ve come to America because we’re the Land of Opportunity, but they’re greeted in a most horrific manner. I am truly appalled and ashamed by the actions and careless attitude of the government officials behind this catastrophe. I want you to know how much I appreciate you sharing your concerns regarding this issue, as well as including ways that we can actually do something to help. Thank you!

I can’t pick just one post as a favorite–I’ve enjoyed and related to so many! From your husband’s career aspirations (I was rooting for him!), the kids getting sick, Marlowe changing schools, all while you were Mommin’ and doing your thing…and you are still keeping it real! I guess I’m just amazed. There are so many bloggers out there and all in different income brackets, most of which I kind of roll my eyes at because I’m middle class for life LOL. You don’t do sponsorships out of greed, you genuinely enjoy sharing the things you love and I just dig that! It’s why I followed you in the first place and why I’m still here! I don’t get a chance to comment on each post (deployed husband with an almost 8 month old on my own) but I read them when my bean goes to sleep and it’s a part of my “me time”. So, they have all meant something to me as a fellow Mama trying to cultivate a happily ever after of my own. 🙂
